I have used this oil for several 7,500 mile changes in a 2002 Volvo V70 XC, a turbo-charged car driven in primarily in the city. The car was bought used, with 92,000 miles on it. After several changes with this oil, the engine is perfectly clean inside (observed sump condition when replacing an o-ring on the oil cooler). Further, the Laboratory Used Oil Analysis (Blackstone labs) demonstrated very low wear metals and strong detergency (TBN) after 7,500 miles. There is no better choice for a car specifying a 5W40 oil. The Volvo has over 157,000 on it now. Engine runs like new. Amazon sells this oil for a reasonable price, about the same as you would find in a parts store, but this stuff is more rare than hen's teeth. I have never found it in a parts store, Wal-Mart, etc...

I have a higher milage Volkswagen GTI that runs aftermarket (Revo) software. It's a hard working little engine that runs alot of boost ( 20psi), has high compression and direct injection. I drive 500 miles a week. I normally used the OEM oil which was a Castrol Syntec 5W-40 and it worked fine. I also did somewhat regular oil analysis to keep an eye on things so that provides me an opportunity to compare oils. I used the Ultra for the first time on my last change and had the oil analyzed at Blackstone Labs after 5000 miles of use. Mostly highway driving but also plenty of stop and go traffic. The lab results came back better than any other test I have performed to date. When the car had only 40k miles on the clock my iron wear levels were at 26ppm after 5000 miles of use. This time the iron wear went down to 11 ppm and that was after the car recently hit 100k miles. I think I found a new oil!Best Deals for Pennzoil 550022576-6PK Ultra 5W-40 European Full Synthetic Motor
"BMW Approved vs Exceed BMW Specifications"Two words in particular are often listed on oil packaging-"approved" and "exceeds"-and it's critical you differentiate between the two. While both sound good, the former is more important, since it indicates your oil has been approved for use in your vehicle by the vehicle manufacturer and will keep your warranty intact. For example, Pennzoil Ultra Euro 5W-40 carries a BMW LL-01 approval rating. This means Pennzoil sent its oil to BMW, and BMW rigorously tested it to ensure that it meets requirements for stability, drain intervals, longevity, wear, emissions, and so on.
"Exceeds," on the other hand, is simply an oil manufacturer's claim and doesn't necessarily indicate any real basis of comparison as to what it exceeds. When an oil brand claims it "exceeds manufacturers specifications," that's simply the oil manufacturer's opinion and not necessarily the vehicle manufacturer's. Think about it-would you really think if the product was sent to BMW to be tested that BMW would sent a letter back stating, "We're sorry, but this oil is just too good and exceeds all of our specifications so we can't give you approval"?
