I have used this product for years and it is amazing in its ability to restore dried out leather boots, belts, bags and jackets to like new quality. It makes stiff new leather soft and richer looking. It does make the leather darker, but that is the nature of oil. It is all natural, does not smell and is easy to use. The treated item will usually get lighter again in a few days. I restored a dried out pair of Ecco nubuck shoes and after a few days they look like nubuck again, but without the dried out scratched up look they had before. A vintage Schott motorcycle jacket became soft and pliable again. I always keep a couple of pints around to apply to my jackets, gloves and boots/shoes every winter, even the wife's Coach purses. It also works to restore some sun faded leather club chairs we have that sit in front of a window. I have even stopped polishing some shoes, just add another coat of Obenauf's oil!

I've been a fan of Bick 4 leather conditioner and have been its champion for years. I've applied it to anything that is leather (briefcases, bags (messenger, laptop), jackets, pipe bags, leather tobacco pouches, etc.). I also have a few boots (and "regular" shoes) and that is where it is mostly applied to. I recently ran out of Bick 4 which forced me to hit my local store. Just my luck, they ran out of it. The sales clerk suggested I use Obenauf's Heavy Duty LP and Leather Oil. He explained to me how the product worked. I was extremely apprehensive about this product at first. It did cost a little bit more than the Bick 4. However, I took a gamble and purchased both products. After carefully following the instructions, I applied both LP and Leather Oil to all my boots, jackets and leather bags and brief cases. I was amazed with the result. I could really see and feel the difference. Unlike Bick 4, Obenauf's not only conditions the leather, it also repels water. It even removed the scuff marks that were on my briefcase. It may have cost me a pretty penny for both, but it was worth it. THIS STUFF REALLY WORKS! A word of caution though, it did make the colors on some of my shoes and other leather items darker. Bick 4 has served me well over the years. However, it's time to move over and say hello to my new friend OBENAUF'S.

I have a wonderful 1950s horsehide Buco motorcycle jacket I've hung onto for years without wearing. It had become literally as stiff as a board. My son had gotten a bike and I wanted to hand this down to him, but first I wanted to soften it enough to at least put on. I had read about Obenauf's and decided to give it a try. It is an oily/waxy mixture with a faintly animal smell (lanolin?). The cap has an applicator under it that one uses to just rub it on. That's it. The leather almost immediately looked better and felt softer. I applied it twice from the "shiny" side with great result (I could get it on!) and plan to now turn the jacket inside-out for an application from the rough side to complete the job. I expect the 16 oz bottle to be about empty when I've restored this one old jacket, so if you're doing a car interior or old sofa, you'll need a lot of it. It soaks in completely and does not appear to rub off on the hands or clothes afterwards, which is nice. For a good result restoring old, dry leather fast, I could not have expected any better performance than I got from Obenauf's.

This is some of the best leather threatment you can buy. It soaks in and it will darken the leather sightly but just do a small test and see it is darkens too much but be sure to let it soak in and dry completely and you will be pleased.

I was looking for something to treat some old leather and this stuff got it back to almost new. Works great and really is waterproof.

This will darken the leather, but will make it softer.

Pros:

Works great

Cons:

Applicator likes to slide out of your hand. Can get a bit messy.
