The last thing I want to do is start a never ending "Oil thread debate" over 2-cycle oil brands on Amazon,

I do want to explain why I chose to switch to Bel-ray H1R for my Outdoor power equipment. Keep in mind that Not all 2 stroke engines are operated in the same way so it shouldn't be "Assumed" that a paticular oil will always act in the same predictable manor for all different applications. For example: Most pro-saws are

operated @ "Wide open Throttle" while in the cut, and usually idling when not in the cut. This is much different than say a dirt bike where throttle is continuously varying depending on what the rider needs at the time. Both are air-cooled 2-strokes, but operated differently.

I primarily use 2 stroke oil for Outdoor Power Equipment so that's the application I'll speak to in this review.

I've tried several synthetic 2-cycle oils, But I switched to Bel-Ray H1R on the advice of a well-respected/professional chainsaw

engine builder who "Ports" saws for even Higher Performance than OEM.

He services these engines everyday for a living, He modify's intake and exhaust ports, increases compression, advances timing, Etc.

Basically he "Hod rods" them so to speak and returns them to the customer. I trust his judgment as he has tremendous experience

in this field and see's the effects of various oils have on bearings, cylinder wall's etc on a daily basis.

He also is not a "Dealer" for any specific oil, and has only the end-user interests and ultimately his own reputation for durability in mind-(unbiased opinion.)

Many of his customers want the added performance porting offers, but also rely on their saws to put food on the table, and need them to be reliable daily for many years to come.

Bel-Ray H1R is his oil of choice/recommendation in high performance air-cooled applications such as O.P.E.

Two of the Saws that I sent him had seen a lot of use over many years-(Husqvarna 346xp/372xp). I had used a well known/respected synthetic 2 cycle

oil in for many years. When he got into the saws he found although they had minimal wear, and a nice shene of oil on the piston skirt/bearings,

there was however extensive "Hard-Crusted" carbon build-up on the piston top, the combustion chamber and the muffler that he had a hard time scraping off in preparation for the port work I requested. He also indicated that this had not yet caused a problem, but was heading in that direction. I told him I always carefully mix @ 50:1 using premium pump gas as per the OEM manual. Also the saws were tuned correctly and ran great prior to him porting them.

Using H1R will keep things clean, and well lubricated for long term/high performance use.

The only reason I rated it 4 stars was I wish it were a different color, as it hard to tell the difference from straight gas with the color of it being orange/red.

(It's a good idea to label your containers Date/ratio/etc!).

high performance synthetic 2-cycle oils in a stress test should you want to read up further:
