Great oil for my car and the really hot climate. Used to be able to get this in the gallon containers but that went away over a year ago and hasn't returned. Oil well, maybe next year.

You can pay more, but you can't buy better. As good as the $20 a quart stuff. Have been using for years, the last 12 yrs I have ran this in Harley Davidson Twin Cam motors where oil temps routinely reach 250 degs. I use this in a hot rod with 550hp and works great. The viscosity stays the same whether hot or cold and that is the big advantage with synthetic motor oil. It also contains more of the additives needed by high performance engines for long camshaft life. Also with the slipperyness of synthetic motor oil, there is a performance gain. Full synthetic motor oil is the best thing since sliced bread for small air cooled engines, such as lawnmowers and snowblowers. My five star rating is based on that application. In my opinion, full synthetic motor oil is very expensive overkill in the family car, with the exception of engines that were designed from the ground up to require it. I would give Mobil One only two stars for automotive use due to the excessive cost.Air cooled engines have very poor temperature control. The hot spots get so hot that conventional oil burns to fine particles of carbon. You can see conventional oil turn to a dark brown color after only a few runs of the engine after an oil change. That's not dirt getting into the engine; it's immediate thermal breakdown of the oil.
The typical air cooled engine only takes 0.75 quart for an oil change, so the price premium over conventional oil is trivial. You should change the oil every year, but if you don't, you will notice that the oil stays clean looking for several seasons.
The viscosity grade of Mobil One 15W-50 is perfect for lawnmowers. For a snowblower, consider 0W-40 instead.
It's a different story for the water cooled engines in cars. Tight thermal control has been the name of the game ever since emission regulations were enacted in 1968, with every new generation of engines being better than the last. Cold spots produce CO and unburned hydrocarbons, and hot spots produce nitrogen oxides. Both have been eliminated. Remember that full synthetics were invented for use on the Alaska pipe line project. Not many of us in the lower 48 will ever have to start our cars at -50 degrees Fahrenheit.
