I've purchased other Lisle tools in the past and had good success. I didn't read the reviews prior to ordering this tool though. What a piece of crap. It may work on a brand new truck, but it's worthless on a 2007 Explorer with 90K miles. As everyone says, the plastic is just too thin and doesn't have the force to open up the fingers. I ended up purchasing a different set from O'Reillys. Don't waste your time (and money) with this product.

Tool made with thin, cheap plastic that doesn't hold up at all. Ended up removing clips with a pick tool. I don't recommend this tool.

Please see my other reviews, and you can tell I'm not a competitors plant, or somebody that slams a product just because. When I give an item one star it means I really wish I hadn't wasted my time, effort, and money on it. I admit I did something stupid, and ruptured the trans cooler on my 2004 F150. Swap was pretty simple really, pop the lines with the specialty tool, unbolt the two bolts from the bottom of the radiator support, and extract, bolt the new one in, pop the lines in, start the truck, wait for the air bubbles to work their way out and check the ATF level, fill to full mark, call it a day....

No such luck. What should have been a 10 minute job of popping the lines, ended up costing my 3 hours of angry frustration at this miserable excuse of a misdesigned tool. Perhaps it works well for other applications, but this tool in no way, shape, or form is thin enough to get up in the gap to release the quick release fitting on the 2005 F150. The metal scissor version was nowhere the be found and I needed my truck back, so I ended up dragging the truck to a shop that had the metal Lisle tool that nobody local to Houston had....

Long story short, if you are going by the Haines manual, for a 2004-2008 F150, ignore what the book says on this tool, it's plain and simple wrong. Get the metal scissor looking one instead...

I tried this on 3 different GM vehicles to release the transmission connectors. While the shape and size of the tool is correct, in was unable to work on any of the 3 vehicles, and ended up deforming the plastic end of the tool instead of releasing the clip. In all instances I ended up removing the clips with a pick (I am aware this is not recommended, and advised against, but it worked unlike this tool).

Maybe if you have a vehicle with worn out clips that are not providing proper tension you MIGHT be able to get this to work, but I still wouldn't count on it. And you should be replacing the clips with new ones anyway, so you might as well just use the pick, it is a lot easier and faster.

I spent an hour trying to remove the transmission lines from a 2006 explorer radiator and got nowhere. You are supposed to insert the tool, push in on the transmission line and the "quick disconnect" connector will then release the transmission line and allow it to be withdrawn. But, inserting the tool would not hold the retaining fingers open to allow the snap in transmission line to be withdrawn. No matter what I did with the tool the transmission line remained firmly locked in.

I solved the problem by cutting the handle off of a plastic half gallon milk container. I then slit the handle lengthwise, then I wrapped it 360 degrees around the transmission line, and pushed in firmly. I had the line out in under a minute. Don't waste money on this Lisle 39960 cheap plastic tool. Use a cheap plastic milk container and avoid a lot of frustration.
