"BMW Approved vs Exceed BMW Specifications"

Two words in particular are often listed on oil packaging-"approved" and "exceeds"-and it's critical you differentiate between the two. While both sound good, the former is more important, since it indicates your oil has been approved for use in your vehicle by the vehicle manufacturer and will keep your warranty intact. For example, Pennzoil Ultra Euro 5W-40 carries a BMW LL-04 approval rating. This means Pennzoil sent its oil to BMW, and BMW rigorously tested it to ensure that it meets requirements for stability, drain intervals, longevity, wear, emissions, and so on.

"Exceeds," on the other hand, is simply an oil manufacturer's claim and doesn't necessarily indicate any real basis of comparison as to what it exceeds. When an oil brand claims it "exceeds manufacturers specifications," that's simply the oil manufacturer's opinion and not necessarily the vehicle manufacturer's. Think about it-would you really think if the product was sent to BMW to be tested that BMW would sent a letter back stating, "We're sorry, but this oil is just too good and exceeds all of our specifications so we can't give you approval"?

According to BMW documents, they suggest that LL-04 oil should only be used in Europe due to th low sulfur content of diesel and petro. US fuel (even top tier gasoline) has too much sulfur. For all modern BMW engine (minus the ///m motorsport engines) u must use ll-01 approved oil like Pennzoil 5w40.

Oils meeting VW spec 507 are few and far between. I had this oil analyzed (along with the VW Dealer sold Castrol SLX), and this oil has a stronger base stock & additive pack. Won't disappoint.

I use this in the 03 regal with 150K on the motor. I started using this product about a year ago and I change my oil every three months which is over kill for this oil but I want to try and get every mile I can out of this car and the car is still running great and there is no reason that I can see at this point that I wont be going over 200K easy on the car. This oil comes out nice and dark every time meaning it is doing its job by suspending the dirt and crud so it's not building up in the motor. Car purrs so nice after each oil change you can tell things are nice and slick inside.

What's really important is what is on the bottle.

I purchased this oil for use in a 2010 VW Jetta Sportwagen TDI based mainly on price, availability, and meeting VW 507 specifications. I have also typically used Pennzoil products in the past hough this didn't really have as much of an affect on my decision. Though the bottle claims it is for use in diesel vehicles without particulate filters their website says this is the oil to use if your vehicle has a particulate filter. I took comfort in seeing the 507 on the bottle though. I also did plenty of research on oils for my application, and I recommend everyone does as well rather than reading reviews stating a particular oil made their car "run smoother" or that it will "increase power." Bob is the oil guy dot com is an amazing resource, use it. This oil is not meant to be used in your buick, so don't waste your money on it. Go to wally world and buy a 5 quart jug of plain Pennzoil Ultra if you want the best Pennzoil has for that application, it will cost half as much and is actually a much more robust oil. If your vehicle requires one of the above specifications this oil is a good choice, otherwise you may be better off looking elsewhere.

As all of you TDI owners already know, getting oils meeting VW 507 00 spec can be challenging. I have a 2009 Jetta TDI and had used Mobil 1 ESP 90%+ of the time. No problems with the Mobil 1 but the last I bought was around $13 a bottle plus tax. Pennzoil was around $9 a quart delivered to the house and it has worked great so far. Again, not knocking the Mobil 1 but I can't justify the price difference. Good oil and I will definitely be buying more of it.

I discovered my old baseball glove in a closet, a glove I had 60 years ago when I was playing Little League. I decided to give it to my grandson. It was in remarkably good shape except for the leather being dried out. What to use? I remembered 60 years ago we used neatsfoot oil, so I tried to find some. Couldn't find it in hardware stores here, so found it on line. It worked wonderfully, making the leather soft, and it had no oily residue after a day or two of soaking in. My grandson loved it seldom put it down the whole time he was here. Of course, he wanted to play baseball all the time, so now I'm looking for some old-time ointments to assuage my sore joints and muscles.

I have a very old carved wooden Chinese cedar chest (probably purchased in the 1950's). It had been stored in a garage, and the wood was dry, dry, dry. I put Neatsfoot generously on the deep-carved wood, and the change was amazing! Brought back a shiny, rich shine to the wood! You might want to try on a small sample piece of your wood, but I was very impressed!!!

Used this on my work boots to soften the leather and to try and extend their life. It worked great, but be warned, if you dont want the color of your boots to change then don't use this oil. It will darken the leather quite noticeably but i dont really care since it's just a work boot.

I have been using this product for the past 45 years.

Clean leather and apply. Then heat leather to impregnate. It softens leather immediately and there is not really any equal to it. When you consider that most of my life that I have worked outdoors, it takes a bit of time to care for leather but the returns in serviceability, durability, and comfort, always has this as a basic "must have". You will get a lot more life out of the leather when used regularly and as needed when inclement weather takes its toll on leather. I even use it on my leather gloves. Oil barrier keeps my hands warm.

After I tried Castrol OEM oil, Mutol VW specific 5w40. This has the least NVH by ALOT!! The acceleration are much smoother and the engine has ZERO vibration when idle.

I've used redline products for the past 15 years and my bill is about 1 grand a year to keep my cars and trucks filled with their products. Previously I've put the 15-40 in my diesel truck and car, but the 5-40 looks to have even better specs and I will now switch over to the 5-40 for my diesel engines. In colder climates, this oil should be easier on the starter (which I broke on my truck)

Good filter and for the 250 Ninjas it included all the new O-rings needed which is something to consider when buying some of the cheaper filters.

Solid filter and includes the needed o-ring seals. The o-rings are thicker than the stock ones, but I find they work great. Someone else mentioned they thought the o-ring could weaken when compressed since it's thick, but given how little torque is supposed to be on these things, I find that highly unlikely. It seals up perfect on my bike. Price is right too. I'll keep buying them.

Just got it and there is no way to rate an oil filter unless you do oil analysis and even that doesn't tell how good a filter is...... If it fits and does not fall apart, it is probably fairly good. I've been changing them on cars, airplanes, motorcycles and more for over 50 years......and I can't really tell you how to evaluate a filter........

I had this filter on a Long tractor model 510. I got long service life from it since it had been on the tractor for a few years. I certainly don't recommend leaving it in service for that long a time, but circumstances beyond my control dictated this. All in all, it did its job effectively. This filter is meant to have a longer change interval so I pushed it to it's limits. I would not hesitate to put this filter on my tractor again. I couldn't find this filter locally so I had to go with another brand. Should have checked Amazon first I guess.
