I have been using this product (used to be called Super-HPO) in a 1954 Chevrolet engine since 1986. Since it's made for diesel engines it still has some of the zinc and phosphorus that flat tappet engines need for wear protection. Oils made for modern gas engines have had most of these two elements removed since they foul up catalytic converters. My engine, in a 1946 Chevy truck, has covered about 60,000 miles with no problems using this oil. Amazon's price is a bargain as well.

Oil is a great deal. Use it in my lawn equipment with no issue. Would buy 10 more cases if I could afford it. I would jump on this deal is you can afford. Not sure about use in regular gas cars or trucks though.

The STAR RATING is misleading; the product itself is a 5 Star but the Selling Practices is a 1 star. So I am giving it 3 stars.

I bought this Case of SAE Oil for 23.79 (1.98/qt) back in January 2013. I bought it for its ZDDP content 1260ppm and SF rating for my older gas cars. It is a fantastic oil to keep for an older gas car and the diesel detergents keeps the engine nice and clean. Its 40C viscosity 87cSt is better than the 15W40 (117cSt) and just slightly worse than the 10W30 (80Cst) which is great for my 85F year round temperatures. Now I come back to buy another case and the price is at $55.99 (4.67) This is more than double the price as originally offered. Clearly it was fine to offer this product at a low price when the demand was low and now that it has gone up, they think its ok to more than double the price. Well guess what, I wont be buying anymore at that price of 55.99.

The oil is fine. My problem is when I went to order it a second time, the price had more than doubled. Could the first price have been a mistake? I paid $2.04 / Qt when I bought my first case. !! Now it is over $4.00 / Qt.

the ad dances around with words BUT this oil is partially recycled oil....which does give me pause to use in a 30,000 car engine.

they, i think, should be right up front with FULL disclosure in the description.

when i read the actual label when mine arrived, i have asked to return it.

if i had a junk engine, or something less expensive i 'might' run this oil.

i would also think that if something did go wrong with an engine, the dealership would take a dim view and perhaps not honor any warranty. again, great pause for concern.

will valvoline then stand by an engine failure due to their oil...can you imagine the fight to get resolution?

If you are do-it-yourselfer, K&N is most convenient (nut to remove, mark to rotate the last 3/4 turn). If you are a racing enthusiast, Mobil can withstand the max pressure (615 psi, Bosch 500 psi very close behind). Having cut open many different of my filters, The The Distance plus certainly can hold it's own. It's media (the folds in the filter and the thickness of the filter itself) is quite impressive, so when they say it holds 3 times the dirt, i can believe them.

K&N makes filters with a bolt on the bottom, but its not that much more convenient, as all you need to do to unscrew the filter is have dry hands/gloves and a moderate grip to unwrench it (supposing you dont overtorque your oil filters). But if arm strength isnt as up to par, then the K&N is not a bad filter

The 99% filtration ratings you have to look more closely, as they are not all rated the same, some manufacturers use bigger microns to up the rating percentages.

Some guys do a filter change along with an oil change every time, and to those people a good mobil 1 fitler would work fine, as the extra money for these filters would be wasted. However, this filter is perfect for people who follow the 2 to 1 rule, 2 oil changes per oil filter.

My vehicle has a maintenance minder system that tells me when to service the vehicle. Since I use synthetic oil, I tend to average 8,500-12,000 mile OCI (Oil Change Interval). Most mainstream aftermarket oil filters will recommend the vehicle manufacturer's OCI but if you contact the oil filter manufacturer, they will only certify their filters for 3-5k miles. The oil filter manufacturer's have not updated the ratings to meet the latest vehicle manufacturer extended oil change intervals.

Rather than take the risk with these filters, I use extended drain filters which ensure that the filter can withstand the longer cycle. This Bosch Distance Plus oil filter is well built and heavy duty (the filter itself is heavy). Since the filtration rating is a bit lower, I suspect that the filter has higher flow characteristics (which is what you want for an extended drain interval so that the filter does not plug up quickly and go into bypass).

However, I noticed a similar issue that I had with my Purolator PureOne oil filters that have the orange silicone gasket. Since the silicone gasket is soft/pliable and not as dense as the black nitrile gasket, I find that some of the oil has seeped past the gasket during the course of the oil change interval. Tightening the filter 3/4 to 1 full turn will cause the metal can to contact the mounting surface. The gasket of these filters need to be a bit taller to ensure proper compression and seal. Keep in mind that Purolator and Bosch filters are now made by the same company, and therefore the designs are identical. I have contact Purolator engineering to report this issue.

In general, this filter should serve you well. I noticed that my maintenance minder went longer when I used this filter. When it's time to change the filter and you notice that the filter is coated in a thin film of oil, you will most likely need to look at a different filter.

Haven't recieved the filter from here but did get for a dolar more at local supercenter, filter seams to look to fit the bill will check at 10,000 miles, surre does take a while for free ship.

I have to say, I've used all types of synthetic oils on special (From Costco, Pepboys, Napa or O'reilly's) in my 1999 Ford Explorer Sport 4.0 SOHC engine. They all were good quality oils (i.e. MobilOne High Mileage, Penzoil Advanced Synthetic, Valvoline...and heck even some of the store brand synthetic oils were good!), and had no problems using it in my daily beater with 199,600 miles! I just did my 5000 miles oil change this morning with the Texas Tea 10W-30 Full Synthetic, and a PL30001 Purolator PureOne Oil Filter (I've always used Purolators!) I have to say...there was some noticeable differences when I fired her up. The engine seemed to be quieter, and when accelerating, it did feel a tad bit smoother. I think it's a quality oil, but I have to wait to see how this goes until my next OCI. I plan on keeping this oil in for 7500 miles and see if it really stands up to the extended drain intervals.

**Update to original posting with recent oil change: Okay so since I last did my Oil Change in February of 2012, I recently changed my oil out in late Septmber 2012. At that point, I barely registered 6000 miles on the oil with a Purolator Pure One Oil Filter. Oil came out a dark amber color, not a chocolate syrup brown color or viscosity. Oil wasn't foamy or sludgy, it still flowed very well like out of the bottle. MY gut feeling was that I could have easily gone to the 7500 mile mark for OCI and this oil would still be good. But 7 months in, and barely 6000 miles on the oil, I felt it was time for an oil change. This oil is the real deal. It is a very good oil.

If you are reading this than maybe you are as curious as I was. I stumbled across this page as I was trying to find a cheaper synthetic oil. With the cost of everything going up, it's always good to save money where you can. Why not start with oil? Texas Tea offers numorious weights and based on the reviews, they all seems to be worth their weight. (no pun) I recently purchased 6 quarts of 10w-30. As a Amazon Prime member I received my order promptly. (two days) The box these ship in fits perfectly 6, 1 quart bottles. To my suprise there many different texts on the bottle. Texas Tea is proud to let you know that 1 percent of all profits goes to charity. The bottle also makes a reference to the movie "Fletch" by saying "it's all ball bearings" as well.

The oil caps on the bottles DO NOT completly come off, so you will have to work around the small inconvenience of that. The bottles do pour well. My truck holds 6 quarts exactly which is convenient. The oil seems to be of high quality which is the most important concern of mine.

I believe having the choice of supporting the little guy is what makes Amazon so great. I could buy big oil's brands at the autopart store or I can come to Amazon and purchase what I want at a discounted price.

I found this oil about a year ago. I love that it's a good price and it ship free thanks to Amazon Prime. I change my oil and it comes out nice and dark just like it should. If the oil is doing it's job it should come out dirty not clean and this oil does each and every time. It still have a good viscosity to it when I change it and it isn't foamy. The earth friendly stuff is they do is nice but all I really want is a good oil and this stuff is it.

Here's why I use Red Line products. Red Line oils are API Group V (polyol esters, polyalkylene glycols (PAG oils), and perfluoropolyalkylethers (PFPAEs) oils and have the highest flash points of all oils and almost always provide the highest engine protection. Examples for ground transportation vehicles are Red Line and Motul 8100 oils (both esters base oils), as most are reserved for air transport engines and are very expensive. However, Red Line oils cost half as much as Motul 8100 and both may be the only API Group V oils available in the U.S. for ground transportion vehicles, without paying a huge premium.

I needed a synthetic with a high flash point. An ester based oil is even better. It solved a chronic problem I was having with my older model Corolla losing oil.

Redline has the most Molybdenum in it than any other oil out there. Using this oil has greatly decreased the dreaded Hemi tick in my 2010 Ram 5.7L. Plus I can go 7500 miles in between oil changes. Use a top of the line oil filter (not a paper element filter) like a Mobil One or Royal Purple when using this oil. Those have been highly rated for use with this oil.
