I have to admit, I am a bit of a geek, often "over-analyzing" minor things like what my foot-pounds of torque are at various RPM stages and comparing my power band arc to other similar makes and models. That said i did some analysis into what oil would do well with my car. I wanted to make sure that I didn't choose just "any" synthetic oil, after all there are still different levels of quality when it comes to Synthetic oils as well. In my opinion the oil and filter you put in your car is one of the single most important things any car owner can do. Here are my before and after calculations to Synthetic,Given: I drive a Ford Edge Sport Edition (this is the same Engine as the Lincoln MKX)
Before Running OE conventional Oil: City MPG 18 / Hwy MPG 21
After Switching over to Synthetic High Performance: City MPG 18.7 / Hwy MPG 24 (holy crap!)
Improvement: City 3.8% increase / Hwy 14.3%
*Note: My wife often says I drive like a bat out of hell, so keep in mind your results may vary from mine.
