A friend of mine did an exhaustive study of filters and engine oils for use in some expensive classic antique cars. In summary, he found that filters vary widely in construction AND in filtering performance. Buying a name brand filter does not guarantee a filter made out of quality materials, nor does it guarantee the removal of particles in the 10 to 30 micron range which cause most engine wear. After doing my own research to supplement that done by my friend, I identified Royal Purple filters as generally being the best from both a quality of construction and filtration performance perspectives. While they cost three to four times as much as the usual name brands, their more thorough removal of the wear-sized particles will extend the life of my engine, and will pay for the extra filter cost many times over.

When you're done studying oil filters, do some research on the removal of ZDDP from engine oil and what consequences that is going to have on your engine's life...

Although this filter may seem pricey at first, one must remember that it is an extended life filter. So it will last as much as three times the mileage as a regular filter, thus saving you precious time and money if your like me and change your own oil. You can tell it is a quality product just by the feel of it!

RP makes a quality product with attention to detail. I've never been disappointed with them and that is why I don't mind paying a bit more for top quality and consistency.

I do my best to keep some of these stuff on hand for when I am working on either of my cars or the motorcycle. I do most of my own automotive work (where time and money for tools permits) and I have a nasty habit of accidentally spilling fluids on the garage floor. This stuff is a real life saver and makes cleanup of my spills a breeze. I normally throw a few hand fulls of this on the spill and then rub it around with my foot until it is dry. After it sits for a while, I clean it up and dispose of it -simple!

This stuff does what it is suppose to. We do not spill a lot in our shop as our processes protect our work space. However, every now and then when something does spill, we have this on hand and it works just fine.

Like to have oil dri on hand for small oil leaks on my driveway. After spending a small fortune on a new driveway a bag of oil dri goes a long way in protecting my investment. Perfect size, easy to store.

5W-20 Oil Review

Customer Ratings:

I highly recommend this item, which is hard to

find on shelves in stores, and more expensive at

dealerships.

The full synthetic is what you want for long

engine life. No doubt about it.

My 2005 Lincoln Town Car Signature Limited with

the 4.6 L V8 motor has responded well with this

synthetic 5W-20 oil in it.

Motorcraft is really the best for this vehicle

and I'll continue to use it. Amazon's price

is the lowest, plus FREE shipping ... like,

"I SUPPOSE you could do better than that???"

to quote the great Ed Grimley, I must say.

Only buy Mann filters for the mercedes. I will not buy anything else. With the extended time between oil changes, you need to have a filter that will last. So far so good.

I still do my own oil & filter change on all our cars. Not because I'm cheap, just because I find it relaxing after a week of software high tech. Have used these filters filters from Amazon.com often without issue. Get my Mobil 1 at the same time on same purchase. Can't beat the price and service to my door!

Honest reviews on Mann-Filter HU 514 X Metal-Free Oil Filter

I've been using these and one other brand in my 2005 Mercedes 230K for years. I use these along with

Mobil 1 synthetic and the car has 220,000 miles on it, so they must be doing something right! Still runs great

and easy to change (once you've done it a few times....ha!) Good product and a good way to save money too.

I use this at 20% in the engine oil of my class-8 truck with a Cummins. 2 gallons Lucas, 8 gallons oil for a fresh oil change. I've been using this for well over 15 years in various heavy trucks, it helps maintain the longer (10k mile) oil change intervals. 908,000 miles on the Cummins and it uses no oil in the 10k-mile change interval.

I also use it in an older small-engine (mower) that had some blow-by. The Lucas thickens the oil, reducing blow-by and oil consumption. It also reduces rattle in that small engine.

All-in-all, a good product. This is a viscosity "improver" (i.e.makes the oil thicker). It uses long-chain molecules (that means it's sticky as heck), like STP. This means it can be a mess if you spill it. It's a pain to clean up.

Easier to pour if it's warm, I sit it out in the sun before using.

I won't get into the argument of whether this stuff works or not (I burn oil, and auto part employee recommended this to slow burn/seal gaskets/whatever he said 4 years ago. I've used in every oil change since then.) I usually see this for anywhere between $11-$15 per quart, so when I saw 4 gallons (16 qt) for $101, I jumped on it.
