I was in the Honda dealership in Kingman, Arizona having routine maintenance done on my 2009 Civic LX. Honda checked my engine and in-cabin air filters and showed me that BOTH were dirty and needed replacing. I told them to go ahead and replace them. The service rep said replacing both filters typically costs about $105.00.

I immediately told him to skip changing the filters. $105? I couldn't believe replacement filters were that much.

We stopped by WalMart on the way home to check their prices for replacements. $35.00 for both.

I've bought auto parts from Amazon before and saved a ton of money, so I checked their prices. I got both air filters PLUS an oil filter (which I'll eventually need) for $29.00. All products were eligible for free shipping (and no sales tax). Guess what? I just saved almost 25% by not buying from my local Kingman WalMart, AND I got a good Fram oil filter to boot!

Lessons learned...

1) DON'T BUY ANYTHING other than service from a Honda dealership. Their markup is ludicrous.

2) Unless you need it NOW, DON'T BUY ANYTHING from WalMart that you can get at Amazon. You'll save a bundle cheaper prices, no sales tax, and no gas used to go shopping!

I've used Fram filters for years and none have failed. These are well made and nicely engineered. Even Honda of America contracts with Fram to produce their replacement filters (albeit under the Honda name).

I've never noticed much of a difference between TG/XG & K&N. But what I do know is I can get a 7500-10k oil change with Royal Purple and either the Fram grip or K&N wrench end are CRITICAL to easy filter removal (and that's always oiling the gasket on install with 1/2 turn past initial contact). I'm about to finish my first 15k oil change with Amsoil & their 15k filter. Will see how that goes (so far still runs well -and close to my dream of 1 chg / yr). But for any other full synthetic, Fram is a great filter to use.

This part fit my 2006 Acura MDX fine. It appears to be of a quality construction and has worked well since it was installed.

I've gone from changing my oil every 5k to 7.5k like the manual on my car suggests. Using this heavy duty filter gives me a piece of mind since my car is now over 100k miles. It's also saving my cash by not doing oil changes too often.

The PureONE filter is about the best you can get for your car. I average 100-150 miles of hard and fast driving at track days and the oil comes out clean and smooth when I'm done. The surface of the filter is pebblegrained so it doesn't slip in your hand when tightening or loosening. It has very fine particle filter specs, last time I checked it filtered the smallest particles out of the filters tested.

I use Purolator PureONE PL14459 oil filters in my 2005 Hyundai Santa Fe (2.7 liter engine). I drive over 30k miles every year and change oil and filter at 3,300 miles intervals. Current mileage is 169k miles.

At 99.9% efficiency these filters far exceed OEM filter specifications. Filter construction and performance are superior. The silicone anti-drain back valve is a real plus. It helps reduce engine wear during cold starts. As a mechanical engineer I'm very particular about choosing after market auto parts. I do my own maintenance and have gotten 275k and 325k on two other cars. Both cars engines were still running fine when they were totaled in accidents by inattentive drivers.

One reviewer indicated their filter was hard to remove. This can happen with any oil filter, regardless of brand. Simply place a few drops of fresh oil on the oil filter gasket before installing. Hand tighten only, do not use a filter wrench to tighten. I never have problems removing these filters and I do 10 or more filter changes annually.

I run these for 2+ OCI's on both synthetic AND conventional. I just took the filter off of my Hyundai after two oil changes' worth of miles (2,900 on GTX and 4,200 on QS = 7,100 mi) and I felt wasteful throwing it away. It still felt solid and the oil looked clean. The filter still looked wonderful with almost no signs of use.

I've seen these filters cut open after 10-12k and the media is still perfectly in tact and everything looks good for yet another run. These Pure Ones will do everything the "distance" filters will do and at half the cost. Not to mention 99.9% efficiency at > 20 microns is the best in the industry right now. This already tells you they will do their job. These are solid filters guys.

P.S. if you're really pinching pennies, look for sales on Quaker State filters they are made by Purolator and are the same as the regular Classics. Not as good as the Pure Ones, but still great filters.

In our household,

we have 2009 Honda, 2002 Camry, 2011 Kia Optima.

I use Purolator PureONE filter in all of them.

These filter have great filtration rate, and after doing about 50+ oil change jobs by my self, I do not use anything else.

I often buy these in bulk and carry them in my car, just in case I need to do a oil change with local auto shops.
