Not sure why Harley can't put this nut on their filters, or maybe an inward 1/2" driver hole. Anyway, it makes yanking this thing off much easier because the strap wrench or the Harley-style filter wrench doesn't let you get your hand in there to manage the filter and all the oil that pours out after it comes loose. This helps me ensure a clean oil change... as clean as it can be. Not sure why they chose 17mm for the bolt size, but whatever. What I wasn't excited about was that, at least for me, the black paint seemed to not be "as black" as the Harley filter, or it may have faded or been affected negatively by road salt or something. It wasn't gray or anything, it just wasn't as black as the Harley filter I replaced it with (because I couldn't wait for shipping from Amazon.com). Not a big deal... it's still black. Just not... as black.

Why pay the dealer's exorbitant rate when this little filter twists off easily with a small adjustable wrench, found in nearly every household?

Remember: Harley-Davidson found that the standard 5 micron filter was too restrictive on the XR1200 engine because the XR has twice the oil pressure of the regular XL Sportster. Don't buy a regular Sportster filter for your XR1200 or XR1200X!

Anyone who has fought with the oil filter wrench on a Harley filter knows that the little nut on top of this filter makes it so much easier. I have noticed no difference in operating temperatures, etc.. on the bike in the last few oil changes using these filters and combined with the "Ernst Manufacturing Drip-Free Oil Filter Funnel" my oil changes are spotless.

Blendzall is excellent stuff. I use it in all my vintage bikes. People love the smell and I have never had engine components last as long as they do using Blendzall Ultra. My engines are high compression, high RPM and MX ported. I do not have any experience with this stuff in PV or liquid cooled engines though.

I use this at 32:1 in my 2-cycle lawn equipment (chainsaws and trimmers). It works absolutely fantastic and the whole engine is well-protected and clean. As a bonus I can run equipment all day and not feel sick from the fumes. Other 2-cycle oils give me headaches or make my nose burn. Very quality oil and a good price. I would recommend using sta-bil in addition to this.

I could not give this tool 5 stars because it does not work as is, and I could not give it one star because it is well built (as in sturdy). Read on for my solution to getting this tool to work. First off the one I received is not quite the one in the picture. The ends of the arms in the picture show more of a sand paper type traction, while the one I received just had deep groves on the arms (nor is it all silver for what that is worth). That being said I do not think it would matter because the real issue is with the angle of the arms in relation to the thing they are trying to grip which of course is the oil filter. Now perhaps if I was sent the one in the picture it would have worked out of the box, but the one I received has arms that are not at a right angle as I think they should be. The arms are slightly pointed inward which means the only part of the arm that makes contact with the oil filter is the tip (the very end of each arm) and not the sides of the arms where the traction is as was originally intended. Since only the tips make contact it slips when trying to turn the filter. So to close the gap (dead space) between the filter and the sides of the arms I put some insulation tape on the arms (because it is thick and spongy) and then covered that with 3M outdoor tread tape (used on ladders or places you need traction). Sealed it off with my glue gun and now I have a functional tool that will actually grip the oil filter and turn it, because the tread tape now makes contact with the oil filter instead of having dead space. I also believe you could buy some of the self hardening putty (found in the automotive section) put that on the arms to close the dead space/gap and then cover that with the tread tape. I know it sounds like a lot of work to get it to become a functional tool, but it is well built and I think would last a life time. However, the manufacturer needs better quality control so that the end product matches the specs of the original because I can not see them designing the tool to only grip the filter with the tips of each arm since they put traction marks further up then just on the tips of each arm. Also this tool is only for removing not putting the oil filter on in case that is not obvious.

Mag1 comes with additives such as ZDDP that help protect your engine, many other oils do not come with significant quantities and although this oil is not the highest in concentration of ZDDP it is around 900 to 1000 and is of good quality. I would recommend this over Mobil 1 on value and quality. Mag1 is the private label brand of Warren, they are one of the largest and oldest motor oil companies in the business. For the price you cannot find a much better Full Synthetic motor oil.

This synthetic oil is made in the USA by Warren. It's their private label brand. They are the supplier for many private labeled synthetic store brand oils sold in the US, and are even contracted to the DOD. As of 2012, it is an API certified SN oil, and ILSAC GF-5.
