I have a cheap Pro-Lift jack that wouldn't raise my car. I checked out the manual, and there was actually a fill hole for adding or changing the hydraulic oil under the name plate. I added some of this oil and popped back in the rubber plug. At first, it didn't seem to help, but after a few hours, I tried again, and the jack rose to its full extension and would lift my car.

I ordered this for a Craftsman jack that was leaking fluid. I figured I'd give this a shot before replacing the jack. The one time I used the jack with this fluid in it, it leaked out all over the floor. Not sure if it actually works or not. The seals in my jack may have just been beyond repair.

Not much to say about this. It fit in perfect for my 2006 Can Am outlander 800XT. I worked and that is all that mattered. I used royal purple oil and all was well.

I could not give this tool 5 stars because it does not work as is, and I could not give it one star because it is well built (as in sturdy). Read on for my solution to getting this tool to work. First off the one I received is not quite the one in the picture. The ends of the arms in the picture show more of a sand paper type traction, while the one I received just had deep groves on the arms (nor is it all silver for what that is worth). That being said I do not think it would matter because the real issue is with the angle of the arms in relation to the thing they are trying to grip which of course is the oil filter. Now perhaps if I was sent the one in the picture it would have worked out of the box, but the one I received has arms that are not at a right angle as I think they should be. The arms are slightly pointed inward which means the only part of the arm that makes contact with the oil filter is the tip (the very end of each arm) and not the sides of the arms where the traction is as was originally intended. Since only the tips make contact it slips when trying to turn the filter. So to close the gap (dead space) between the filter and the sides of the arms I put some insulation tape on the arms (because it is thick and spongy) and then covered that with 3M outdoor tread tape (used on ladders or places you need traction). Sealed it off with my glue gun and now I have a functional tool that will actually grip the oil filter and turn it, because the tread tape now makes contact with the oil filter instead of having dead space. I also believe you could buy some of the self hardening putty (found in the automotive section) put that on the arms to close the dead space/gap and then cover that with the tread tape. I know it sounds like a lot of work to get it to become a functional tool, but it is well built and I think would last a life time. However, the manufacturer needs better quality control so that the end product matches the specs of the original because I can not see them designing the tool to only grip the filter with the tips of each arm since they put traction marks further up then just on the tips of each arm. Also this tool is only for removing not putting the oil filter on in case that is not obvious.

This is the best oil out there for the regular driver who wants maximum protection for the car's engine. A little research brought me to the Mobil 1 Extended Performance line of Synthetic oils when searching for a product that could allow me more time between oil changes. Mobil 1 EP allows a 15,000 mile/1 year guaranteed life of the product. I have been using this in combination with their Mobil 1 filters for years. The cost is higher, but I only need to change the oil once a year!

Amazon is my source for buying so many things, and I am a satisfied user, but we do still need to check locally. Mobil 1 oil is on a promotional sale at Advance Auto -5qts plus free Mobil 1 filter($10)for $30. Of course, it's an excellent oil with the EP version permitting 15,000 miles or 1 yr(I wouldn't really go that far myself)between changes. It can be economical to use since less oil changes can more than make up for the additional cost of this synthetic oil.

NO OTHER automotive oil filter meets these specs -BUT -like all other things that seem too good to be true, the K&N Performance Gold has 2 MAJOR drawbacks:

1. The same 10-20 micron filtering ability that allows those super-high flow rates also means that the oil filter is only 90% (K&N's numbers)efficient.

2. That 90% efficiency also means that the filter allows larger dirt particles to remain in the oil, and you're stretching your luck by running the K&N oil filters for more than 3,000 miles. That super-duper synthetic juice isn't any good when it's full of dirt, so the advantages of long-life synthetic oils are lost on the K&N's high flow-rate capacity.

Once again, we're looking at a trade-off --

If you NEED the K&N's RACING advantages more than you NEED the 5,000-mile filter-change intervals, then the K&N is PERFECT for you.

If you NEED to use synthetic oils and go for the longer (5,000+) change intervals, I suggest a different brand of oil filter.

The BOSCH Premium Oil Filter #3410 that crosses to the K&N #HP2010 is also made in the USA. It doesn't have the hi-flow features of a K&N, but the BOSCH "FILTECH" filtration media advertises a 98% efficiency, and can go for 5,000 miles with API "SN", ILSAC 5, "Dexos1" approved full synthetic oil (5W30 Pennzoil Platinum). Remember that a high-efficiency filter will CLOG SOONER, so pushing your oil filter for more than 5,000 miles is neither prudent nor thrifty. Actually, stupid is what it is !! You CANNOT repair the damage done by a clogged filter by replacing the filter !!

For EXTENDED oil-and-filter change intervals, Mobil 1 offers an "Extended Life" oil filter that's made just for "Extended Service" synthetic oils -but is NOT available (due to size restrictions) for all vehicles. There is no Mobil 1 Extended Life Oil Filter available that crosses with the K&N #HP2010 or the Bosch #3410.

Non-racing applications of today's modern gasoline engine specifications can best be met with the use of full synthetic oils that meet the latest API "SN", ILSAC 5, and Dexo1 specs. The API "SN" designation allows for use in ALL gasoline engines, including supercharged and turbocharged gasoline engines from ALL manufacturers.

If you're wondering just which is the best oil for YOUR particular vehicle, go to the Mobil-1 website and look for the "Best Oil For My Car" tab. Answer a few questions about your engine, and they'll give you the correct VISCOSITY specifications according to their manufacturers' data-base.

Use whatever BRAND of oil that you want -it's the API-ILSAC Specifications and the PROPER VISCOSITY of the oil that matters most.

The old myths of "thicker oil lubricates better" and "more detergent means less oil" are long gone -the new synthetic formulations have made it easy for anyone to have the best lubrication available.

Selecting the right lubes and filters for YOUR driving requirements is an important part of vehicle ownership.

Great filter; seems to do a great job (every 5000 miles w/Royal Purple). MUCH easier to take off my '07 Explorer V8. Can only reach front of filter and nut makes it much easier to remove.
