This is a good filter, however it is identical to K&N's oil filters with two exceptions: K&N has a 1" nut at the end to ease removal without special tools, and the colour: K&N is white, Mobil 1 is black. These filters are made in the same factory, have identical factory "dot matrix ink" printing on them for their codes. The reviews for K&N filters are usually great, so there's no reason not to give this filter anything different. I have used this filter on my 2009 Subaru Forester, but I prefer the K&N's easy removal one inch nut for my car, as it's too difficult to get any other kind of tool in the tight spot where the filter's located.

So, if the nut is needed to help remove the filter, go with K&N, if not, it's your choice.

If you are do-it-yourselfer, K&N is most convenient (nut to remove, mark to rotate the last 3/4 turn). If you are a racing enthusiast, Mobil can withstand the max pressure (615 psi, Bosch 500 psi). If you are interested in changing filter as late as possible, Bosch-Distance-Plus (not other models!) holds the max contaminants (29.1g, Mobil 28g very close). If you want max engine protection, Bosch is 99.9% efficient (Mobil 99.2% very, very close).

Some reviewer has said that Mobil filters are K&N filters on the inside. I disagree. Peeking inside the filter hole (you can see only the inner drum and hint of filter material) cannot tell an "expert" how the filter is constructed on the inside. Why does K&N not declare their data (as Mobil and Bosch Distance-Plus-only do?) People who are at the top always boldly publish their data, and do not depend on hype.

Yes, previous version of Mobil filters had flow problems. That has been long corrected.

Great filter. Not so sure I'm going to let it go 10,000 miles. I guess ni'll look at the color of the old oil after 4,500 mile change and consider a filter change. The price of two of these is cheaper then the crap fram ones at walmart. about 4 dollars a pop. excellent quality. rub old oil aroun the new filter case to create a snug seal.

Had been using this filter on my 2009 WRX until I noticed during my most recent oil change that the filter was defective. Looking inside the filter there are small louvers which the oil has to travel through. On my filter I noticed that the louvers were not thoroughly punctured which would cause the oil to not pass through effectively. I will not be using this filter again due to poor manufacturing quality. Also the Subaru WRX requires a filter with the correct bypass pressure which only the factory filter provides.

I just installed the filter only maybe 2 weeks ago, so it's to early to tell about life, and the bike doesn't have an oil pressure gauge, however it is made really well on the inside, the fit and finish of it is also excellent.

I love K&N products and I am slowly switching all my cars over to their line up of oil filters for all my cars and also my 3 motorcycles . I may pursue to see if I can find one to fit my lawn tractor. Good quality.

Superb oil filter that works very well. When oil is changed, it looks almost like the day it was put in. I would say it is the best filter on the market, at least so far.

Best Deals for K&N PS-1010 Oil Filter

I take my car to redline at least a couple of times per week, and with oil changes every 3K miles, my oil comes out still looking relatively clean (not obsidian-black) like with other oil changes on other cars. I don't know if it's because I have always taken great care with my car's maintenance, I always use Mobil 1 synthetic oil, and I always use quality filters. Anyhoo, the filter seems to do a good job at keeping your oil, and thus, your engine internally clean. My odometer is at 120K and I plan to keep using these filters (or Mobil 1's) for the foreseeable future. This is similar to the white K&N (K&N HP-1010 Oil Filter) but is a few bucks cheaper. I am not sure whether the white filter is any different internally (i.e., more filtration media), but if it only adds the ability to wrench it off, I'm not sure that it is worth the +$4 premium-just remember to oil your oil filter gasket with fresh oil before installing it, screw it on and then turn an extra 2/3 turn once it touches; and it should come off pretty easily when the time comes for the next oil change.

Honest reviews on K&N PS-1010 Oil Filter

Excellent filter. I've used these for about the last 5 oil changes in my vehicle which I use primarily for daily commuting but will put it on the highway for extended trips as well. I always pair with a synthetic oil, usually Mobil 1 which I also will be posting a review for, and the two never let me down. I research all items before I use them on one of the most expensive investments I'll ever make, my vehicle. Currently at 112,000k and have only had to replace the battery in my Honda. Prepping to do some routing maintenance before it's due but as far as the filter goes it keeps the oil looking clean even at the 5k change mark. Never any sludge on the drain plug, always easy to remove by hand, have never needed a filter. Gasket always comes off clean. At the price Amazon has them I picked up a few just to have on hand for future changes. K&N products are a staple in my garage.

Very well made quality product, been using it for years and never had a problem, went 150 Mph in one car with one and worked fine, don't recommend you do that unless legal. If your filter is mounted in a weird spot then you can go for the HP version that has a nut mounted on the end of the can.

There is no doubt that I like to take care of my vehicle. Therefore, with a car that calls for oil changes only every 10,000-13,000 miles, I want to be sure to use the approved oil filter that can survive that long.

First, let me put this early in the review. I had had the Mercedes Branded and Box part side by side with this one. They are identical besides the labeling (and part of the labeling is the same as the Mercedes branded one still has the Mann logo and part number too). They are identical because Mann makes this filter, their own brand, and the filter for Mercedes. They are truly one in the same.

These Mann HU 718/5 have a beautiful, strong construction, and indeed they are actually the OEM part. The OEM Mercedes-Genuine part has the Mann HU 718/5 part number right next to the Mercedes part number. The only thing missing on this filter is the Mercedes-Benz star logo, Mercedes part number, and the Mercedes-Benz box. Indeed, the filter is made in Germany as well for anyone wondering. Several of the other aftermarket brands actually use the OEM filter rebranded too, as of this writing, K&N oil, and Purolator oil. However, those products tend to be much more costly since those companies must buy the filters from Mann and resell them.

The Mann branded filter is the best value and easiest to procure since it is right here on Amazon! How could it be any easier? I will only say that the OEM dealer Mercedes labeled filter is not too much more money than this one. Therefore, if you ever happen to be at the dealer or know of a dealer that has good parts pricing, you shouldn't necessary run from the genuine filter. It's the same as this and depending on the dealer, might just be a couple dollars more, if you're in a pinch and can't wait.

Overall, extremely recommended filter. You can't argue with the original product! This OEM filter is designed to hold up for the extremely long oil change intervals recommended by Mercedes. Just be sure to use this filter along with an approved oil such as Mobil 1 0w40.

I don't like to support $tealerships so I always look for safe alternatives when it comes to parts suppliers whenever possible.

These Mann filters are identical to the Mercedes filters. No surprise there as Mann produces these for many European car manufacturers.

This filter kit included all the necessary o-rings for my Benzo. OEM and Made in Germany. It's a wrap.

This is the identical part as the filter that is bought from a Benz dealer and sold for over $20. Save a few bucks and get excellent quality, OEM filter.

Honest reviews on Mann-Filter HU 718/5 X Metal-Free Oil Filter

On my Benz, its typical high-performance engine requires a high-pressure and freer-flowing lubrication system to meet the vehicle's engine-depended systems, such as A/C, electrical functions, suspension, etc.

One time, I used a paper-based filter made by a popular brand filter co. in orange packaging box (and respective change of the full synthetic engine oil). Shortly after 4K miles, the metal oil filter cap that houses the filter began leaking oil out through the screw-grooves. I thought it was caused by the loose cap; I then tightened it. It was still leaking oil out. Occasionally, I cleaned the oil up until after 7500 miles were driven when I thought I needed a new oil cap and time for the oil and filter change.

Then, I suddenly thought that my oem engine oil filter was not a paper-based medium but a "cloth-like" fleece material. After research, fleece is a longer lasting, faster and freer flowing filter medium. What occurred in my Benz's engine was that the paper filter was clogging up, and sufficient oil was not reaching engine internals. The filter restricted the output of oil, and caused excessive pressure on the unfiltered end--that's why oil was leaking out through the oil cap grooves. Usually, I average approximately 10K miles between full synthetic oil and oem filter changes.

I recall that I averaged 7500 miles in between full synthetic oil and paper filter (again, manufacturer with the orange box) in my 89 Toyota. What unfortunately happened which I discovered the cause was that the paper-based oil filter starved that engine of sufficient oil over time, that the engine developed over-heating problems despite my use of full synthetic oils, coolant and water pump changes.

Mann engine oil filter IS the manufacturer Mercedes uses for their vehicles before its packaged and stamped with M.B. When I replaced the paper filter with the fleece type, I experienced no more leakage, and the engine appears to operate more smoothly and faster. After a few 1K miles so far, my engine still maintains its high-performance.

For its $14 price, Mann fleece filter is every bit worth the extra $ over the $5-6 orange-boxed paper filter. If you think of it, when people talk about engines and what they put into them, they always mention the oil brand or type but rarely the filter. Right?

I love them. We spend a lot of time on our boat and these are so reasonably priced I can change them regularly. They are very absorbent. I like the perforations means I can easily only use half when required.

This is a quality product at a great price. Very similar to what you can find in the auto parts stores, but the key difference is that this is the 14 flute version that will work on some Mercedes-Benz diesels as well as the 4.3L M113 engine.

I tried to find this wrench at all the local parts stores with no luck at all. They all can find them for the 3.0 and 3.5 all day long.
