This stuff just came out and was a cheaper alternative to G-Oil. I picked it up locally for $2.99 a quart on sale at O'Reilly the first time, then through Amazon for $3.80ish a quart with subscribe and save. I used it in my sister's 2008 Honda Civic EX 5,000 oil change intervals. Works the same as regular oil, looks the same coming out., reduces dependence on foreign oil, sounds good enough for me to buy it. Oil analysis looked great also.

Purchased this motor oil to run my generator. It runs like a top. Not too sure why I would buy anything else. It's cheaper and made with recycled oil.

This Valvoline NextGen 10W-30 Motor Oil is being used in the generator we relied on during a powerful storm that hit us in the North-East. The oil worked fine and kept our generator working while needed it.

I needed oil for my car and I found this 50% recycled oil and thought yay a win win. So I bought it and had a pro change my oil. The pro said it should be fine but told me to tell him right away if the oil light comes on and to stop the car right away. It was also suggested to watch the gas mileage. I can say so far it has not improved gas mileage but I can not say yet if it made it worse as i have not gotten gas enough to know for sure. I probably should have waited until the next oil change to make this review but I will just update it at that point.

It's oil. You can't eat this type. But it does lubricate the heck out of machinery. Big bits. Small bits.

Comparing this M1 filter to two other filters for the same application (Purolator PureOne PL14459, and Bosch 3312) reveals the M1 filter to be of much stouter construction. Both the baseplate and canister wall of the M1 filter is thicker than the other two filters. The baseplate center hole (.41 square inch area oil exit hole) actually has an extra thread (4 threads for the M1 filter, compared to 3 threads for the other two filters) because of the thicker steel used.

The thicker baseplate of the M1 filter has only 5 oil entry holes (1 .3125" diameter hole and 4 .25" diameter holes) compared to 8 total oil entry oils on the other two filters (all 8 holes .2266" in diameter). This gives the M1 filter 0.27 square inches of oil entry area, 16% less than the 0.32 square inches for the other two filters. Whether this slightly less oil entry capacity for the M1 makes a difference in actual oil flow, I don't know. However the three less holes in the baseplate definitely gives the M1 an advantage in baseplate strength, with fewer holes weakening the structure of the baseplate.

Using a kitchen scale reveals the following filter weights: 255 grams for the Bosch 3312, 267 grams for the Purolator PureOne PL14459, and 289 grams for the M1-104. The weight difference between the Purolator and Bosch filters is probably due to the thick, textured exterior paint used on the Purolator filter. The Bosch and Mobil 1 filters use a thin layer of normal black paint. All three filters use similar perforated metal tubes in the center, with a slightly differently constructed bypass valve on the M1 filter. All three filters claim 99.9% filtering efficiency, with only the Purolator and M1 filters claiming extra dirt holding capacity (useful for longer filter life).

Only the M1 filter has a claim of extra filter strength with the claim "Heavy duty filter canister: withstands 9x the normal vehicle oil system operating pressure". I believe this, as the thicker steel construction of the M1 filter makes for a much stronger filter canister.

From what i can tell the K&N filter and this look the same. When used with extend M1 oil, it will go for 15,000 miles or a year. Its 2012, we shouldn't have to change oil every 3,000 miles like we did in the 60's. I've used this for a few years, seems to do the job.

Great product at a decent price. They came in a typical Amazon box with bubble wrap, plus the items were in their original boxes. Mobil makes good items and the quality is definitely a step up from the big 4-letter oil filter company.

I always use Mobil1 synthetic oil (0W-40) on my sedans and change the oil every 10,000 miles. This is the Filter to match the oil. The interior is the same as the K&N one... and cheaper!

This is the kind of product you would expect from K&N. Thick plastic end caps force oil to flow through the dense filter media. There seem to be many more folds per inch than other brands I have used. I didn't measure the exact count but you can tell from the picture that they are closer together. They even include a screw in drain plug for the filter housing, for those folks who don't let the oil run all over their hand and down their arm.

I ordered this for a replacement filter for the first oil change on my new Lexus. The quality of the K&N filter was leaps and bounds over the factory filter. The instructions were very clear and easy to understand. FYI, your vehicles manual and the instructions both say to use the Toyota oil filter wrench, but you don't need it. If you have a three prong self adjusting oil filter wrench it will do the job. just be careful, you need to reuse it.

The filter seemed fine and was sturdy in construction with plenty of pleats . The little plastic drain that is supposed to screw into the bottom of the filter was another story . The threads on the drain plug were totally defective and unable to screw into the bottom of the filter to drain the small amount of oil that resides in the filter housing. A little bit of a mess even with a pan under the Camry , but all in all a very good filter and I would buy again.

The filter at first try did not seat right, as it looked a little to high. Pulled out and check against the used filter. It was the right size, so I put the K&N filter back and tried again. This time I used a little force to seat it all the way down. It finally seated. I would buy the same one again, now that I know what to expect.

When it comes time to do an oil change and tune-up on the car, I'd just as soon sit down and order everything I need from Amazon on Wednesday, and have everything on hand by Friday, to work on my car on Saturday. Better than chasing around to a couple different stores to get what I need for my Subaru, and I value the selection and reviews at Amazon.

I can't tell you if there's much difference between one oil filter and another in how well they filter the oil. I trust the Fram brand, and just buy their mid-range filters to go with the Mobile One synthetic oil and longer oil change intervals that I prefer (10k miles or 6 months). I do like that these filters have the grip built in on the ends I can often unscrew the filter with just my hands, it's easier to properly hand-tighten the filter when installing, compared to a smooth and possibly oily standard filter.

It's a good oil filter, that's why I've ordered 6 more.

The non skid end makes getting a grip on it so much easier.

The lubricant additive that's built in seems to provide that added protection...;-)

I can't understand what Amazon is doing with these filters. I've gotten them for under $5 and then a week later they're almost $8. Crazy. Regardless, it's a good filter and if the little gel thing really works you're pretty much good to go. It's a question of buying this filter or the high mileage oil with the additives package--you have to find out how to do things more cheaply. Considering this filter is $3 to $4 more than the regular old Fram, and high mileage oil is $3 to $4 more than the regular oil, you need to wait and see what goes on sale.

I do like the Fram rough finish on the cap. Makes it sooooooo much easier to get the filter off.

You can't really go wrong with these, I have a Civic that's over 200k and I don't exactly keep up with my oil changes as much as I should. Fram is a solid brand and the coating on the end helps a lot if you change your own oil.
