I didn't have any differential problems or noises that I know of in my '98 BMW 323is, but at 137,000 miles and not changed for at least 100k miles I figured I'd do this and the manual trans fluid. I'll review the trans fluid there (Royal Purple Synchromax) since that made a huge difference. My car runs much quieter and smoother after the fluid changes. I can not really tell if this oil made a difference in the differential since I did several changes at once but it definitely didn't make things worse. The old differential oil came out completely clear and was as much fluid as expected so I'm pretty sure things have been running as expected back there.

After I had already ordered this I found that some BMW owners run Mobil 1 gear oil in the differential since it is said to run cooler there than RP or Redline oil. So I could have saved several dollars per quart and maybe gotten better performance, but I don't drive the car hard so this will do just fine. 5 stars since my car is running so much better that I'll give some credit to this oil.

Update 06/2012 Several tanks of gas later and my MPG is higher. Since I replaced the trans fluid and this at the same time, not sure which or if both made the difference. Really improved the highway MPG, and it just did 32.09 MPG, doing the relatively flat round trip Los Angeles to Palm Springs plus some other mainly highway driving. My car has been getting 23 to 24 for the last two years and maybe 25 to 26 before that. I've only hit 32 mpg once before in August 2009, and have had only 6 tanks of gas get over 30 mpg in the almost 12 years I've owned the car. Stop and go driving is just slightly higher than before though as the prior three tanks of gas were 23.03 mpg, 27.38 mpg, 24.99 mpg.

Recently replaced all the oil in my front dif/rear diff/ and transfer case on an 07 Tundra. Went from Mobile1 to this, and noticed a slight improvement in noise.

I'd use this again.

I purchased this product to change the differential fluid in my 1970 International Scout. It contains the additive required for the limited slip differential, so that is a bonus.

Sure, there are cheaper oils you can buy for a differential. But from what I have been reading, this stuff is very good and will last much longer than regular "dinosaur" (non-synthetic oil) and will flow at lower temperatures.

I have only done one of the two diff's so far, the rear one, but there already seems to be a slight bit more "grunt" to my tired Scout (an engine rebuild is in the works). I also live in Minnesota, and found my manual transmission, transfer case, and both differentials very "gooey" when the temperature dips down to below freezing. I suspect that this will help somewhat.

On another note, I drained and replaced the fluid in my trans/transfer case with a Castrol "full-synthetic" 5w-50 motor oil, and wow what a difference there! Easier shifts, and much quieter than before. Many think you need to put in a heavy weight oil in these on a truck, but actually many use 50 weight motor oil or standard ATF in their manual transmissions now.

I could tell the difference it made in my limited slip differential . It was quieter and seemed smother . to soon to tell if it made a difference in mileage . Yes I would recommend it to a friend .

Mineral oil with additives. Used the original oil for 600 miles then used this one up to 2,000 miles before changing to synthetic. Expensive but reputable brand. I use same brand for differential gear oil on my truck and the drive shaft for my bike too.

Tip: Don't forget to have the valve clearances checked after break-in. Mine did not need adjusting but its good to know and to be safe on the warranty. The more practical schedule would be in 10,000 miles.

I bought this to add some protection to a new engine I built. Typically, you don't run a synthetic to break-in a new engine, so RP came out with this. It is a non-synthetic oil that has protection additives for engine break-in, but does not prevent the rings from seating. It is not meant for an extend drain interval.

I used this oil to break in a 273 with new flat tappet cam and lifters. I was using double spring valves and didn't bother taking the inner spring out. I had no wear upon break in and use RP oil in all my engines.

I do my best to keep some of these stuff on hand for when I am working on either of my cars or the motorcycle. I do most of my own automotive work (where time and money for tools permits) and I have a nasty habit of accidentally spilling fluids on the garage floor. This stuff is a real life saver and makes cleanup of my spills a breeze. I normally throw a few hand fulls of this on the spill and then rub it around with my foot until it is dry. After it sits for a while, I clean it up and dispose of it -simple!

I am person who just only changing oil, tires, and batteries in a shop. I found out that I need to get a tool set just like this since I have changed oil for German cars, especially Volkswagen. There is a special oil filter cap which is easily loosed by using this tool. Even though i don't use them everyday, I still believe when I need to use them, they will help me to save a lot of time.

I got these for DIY duty and almost sent them back since they are the stereotypical "Made in China" quality. While they should work for their intended purpose, the quality seems really shoddy. For the price, there are many sizes so this set should cover nearly any need of removing an oil filter cover from cars that have removable filter elements (instead of the old standard where the filter and case are one unit).

I drive a 2002 Corolla. It is notorious for losing oil. After tons of research I discovered that the piston rings were poorly designed with too few and too small holes. This makes them susceptible to over heating and carbon deposits that plug them up. Redline oil has a very high flash point and doesn't leave carbon residue on the metal like other oils do. So although it won't solve an already existing problem (by itself), it does prevent the problem from progressing. I used to lose a quart of oil per tank of gas. Now, I don't lose any even after 7000 miles on the same oil.

Redline is one of the few oils (even among synthetics) that are ester based. Esters are cleaner and much more heat tolerant.Redline is expensive but if take extended drains into account, it becomes a lot more reasonable. They're a small American company who will take the time to answer any questions as well.

I use this oil (mixed with the 5W-20) in concert with this filter microGreen 101-1 Oil Filter which I consider to be the best filter on the market. They make an unbeatable combination in my opinion.

I believe Redline to be the best oil on the market.

Red Line Oil makes first class products within the oil industry. If you haven't done any research on them, you should. They are highly respected in the Racing world.

Our 2012 Honda Civic calls for 0w20 and recently crossed the 10,000 mile mark. Feeling that it's well "broken-in" I decided to make the permanent switch to Red Line. The additive package in this oil is very stout with high ZDDP and very high Moly content for an oil. The 1.8L engine in the Civic runs very smoothly with this oil. I have typically been stuck on 5,000 mile oil changes with over the counter synthetics, but now will run at least 7,500 miles on this oil. Most engines could likely go further than this as well.

I also love Red Line because they are a small independent company located in California. On top of that, their products are true synthetic oil(ester based). Not only is this a better oil, there is no foreign oil interest! The company is also very helpful. I've spoken with Dave and he's extremely helpful and will recommend products based on your needs. I will be using their D6 ATF next time I service the transmission. Also, I'll be switching our 2003 Corolla to their 0w30 and D4 ATF.

Note: This oil isn't officially licensed by the API due to the high ZDDP content(good thing) and also it's very expensive to get the license. This doesn't phase me though, the additive package and base stocks are superior to other oils in my opinion. Plus, in the VERY unlikely event your engine fails under warranty; the Magnuson-Moss warranty act protects you from your dealer denying a claim based on oil used. They would have to PROVE that the oil specifically caused the failure(highly unlikely).

Recently switched from these Mobil-1 Extended oil filters to the Royal Purple filters. Only because I did a LOT of research & the Royal Purple filters are the same price as these. (Use Royal Purple motor oil).

However, I would not hesitate to go back to these Mobil-1 filters as they are a quality product & very well made.

Its nice to find an extended performance filter built for synthetics at a decent price. I actually used this for my transmission filter on my 2001 subaru outback to match the mobil 1 synthetic ATF I put in. Works great. The only thing I wish this filter had was a different material at the top for grip when taking it off like the higher end FRAM filters have.

I have a 2006 Infiniti G35 with about 100k miles on it. I've been using Mobil 1 oil and oil filter products since I've owned the vehicle and I've never had a single engine problem. I don't think I really have to get into the details of why these filters are fantastic. You can do your own research. With that said, I would definitely recommend this filter to anyone without hesitation.

I bought a few when I first changed to synthetic oil and high detergent gasoline, since I was worried the detergent action of both these fluids will loosen up more debris than the OEM filter could handle. After my first oil change, I opened up the filter and I was impressed by the high quality materials and sturdy construction, but did not find too much debris trapped in. But now I am getting away from the idea of long changing intervals with the synthetic oil. It;s not all about dirt, gunk and engine wear as much as it is about engine performance. From everything I read, I would not push further than 5-6k miles. To me it seems likely that I will want to restore the smoothness and performance I get with new oil, before it is totally spent, so these high capacity extended change interval filters don;t seem necessary unless I would change them only every other time I do the oil change.
