I bought this for my older Chevy because newer oils don't have adequate amounts of Zinc additive for flat tappet cams for wear resistance under load and this(Mag1) does. The standard Fram oil filters are considered one of the poorest quality oil filters on the market. They have cardboard internal end caps and irregular filter medium held together by clips. These are constructed in Canada and quality control doesn't seem all that good. As someone else mentioned, go to YouTube and look up "oil filter comparisons" you'll see how inferior Fram is compared to other brands. I used Fram for years, but will not buy any more after seeing these dramatic comparisons!

I like the brand-name filter with a better price than you'd get in a retail store. The only thing I don't like is the black "grip" coating Fram puts on it because after it's been on the vehicle for a long time, it becomes brittle and flakes off when you're trying to remove it. Other than that, it does a good job in protecting your engine.

As of December 2008, Brad Penn oils were still being manufactured to the old API-SF and ILSAC GF-2 standards with a full .140% Zinc and .130% phosphorous needed by older engines with flat (non-roller) tappets, such as MG, Porsche, Maserati, Ferarri, and most small and big block GM and Fords. These are a great low-cost alternatives to aftermarket synthetic oils being marketed for flat tappet engines (e.g. Royal Purple). Not for use in late model cars with 100,000 mile warranties on the converter, but necessary to avoid early cam/lifter failures on flat tappet cars. Hoorah for Brad Penn.

I have a backpack style leaf blower, a trimmer and now a chain saw (Sandy warranted it). I have been using the STIHL oil in all my tools for the past five years. They always start on the second pull (when cold) and run well. I had bought some 2 stroke oil at a local store to save money, but sanity prevailed.

I highly recommend this oil for any 2-stroke engine you might have.

These filters have a great review at Auto sites. I like the fact that it still uses my filter cap wrench, and I don't have to drive to the dealer for OEM filters.

I wanted to post an update here. I paid $8.00 for these just a month ago, and now they are over $14.00. Keep an eye on the price. While they are great filters, I won't be using them at almost double the dealers price. I will go back to the OEM filters until these go back down.

When I decided on using Mobil 1 oil in my new car, I decided to use the same brand filter. I do not have any way to tell if this filter is any better or worse than the other major brands out there but I trust the name and the numerous positive reviews on Mobil 1's line of products around the internet.

As seen by the glossy finish, the outside of this filter could be slippery if your hands are oily or sweaty. Though I have never had any problem in getting a good hand grip on the filter, it is also constructed to be able to accept an oil filter wrench cap.

This filter is priceless for the simple addition of the attached hex nut removal bolt. Why ALL manufactures don't add this is beyond me. I used to fight and struggle with silly oil wrench removal tools that don't fit into tight spaces. Now, it's SO easy to get the damn filter off! The straw that broke the camels back was after having my oil changed at the dealership... They cranked that thing on so tight I ended up having to pierce it with a screwdriver just to get it to turn! I purchase this oil filter for infiniti M45 and infiniti G35 and have used them on the civic Si, Rx-8, and nissan 95 240sx with a sr20det s14 VTC type. I keep them around because they work on a plethora of engines: honda K20/24 & J30 V6, Rx-8's rotary, Nissan S14 SR20det, VQ35/37/40, VK45, VR38DETT, mitsubishi 4b11 (evo X) and 4g63(evo 8/9/ eclipse) and many more.

The nut is a life saver in tight spaces, and especially on the new 2006+ civics Si which have a very tight and confined installation space. As for filtering i've taken an old one apart and noted the filter media is very high quality i'd say as good or maybe better than most oem filters.

I recommend it, it's a good filter just to keep around/ have since it works on just about anything my friends have.

I have a 2004 Honda Accord EX xoupe and have used this oil filter for over 140,000 miles. On top of K&N's reputation and performance having the 1-inch nut on the top make it much easier to remove when changing the oil. Excellent product. The reason I am only giving this 4-stars and not the 5 is because this last one that I bought said that it was made in Korea. Every single one that I have purchased before was made in the USA. I hope that it was only a small batch. The K&N oil filter I use for my Mustang GT (2009) still says that it is made in the USA.

These are very handy and much less mess than the clay (kitty litter). I use them to soak up oil, water and antifreeze.

I purchased this product as opposed to the $24 assenmacher filter wrench because I'm poor and owning a 99 s80 only makes me poorer. I had no problem getting the filter off with this tool. It doesn't seem flimsy or anything. Perhaps the people who claim it "strips" don't understand that they shouldn't go all Bignuts on a filter cap and torque it down stronger than excalibur? Anyway, this thing worked just fine for me and allowed me to save $20 to put towards the next thing that breaks on this volvo.
