Great product that is actually recommended by Volvo. This is the only oil my new Volvo will ever use!! I have used Castrol in all of my vehicles for at least 40 years and have never had a problem with Castrol!! Castrol is simply the best engineered oil on the market.Tuesday, December 31, 2013
Discount Castrol 06243 EDGE 5W-30 Titanium Synthetic Motor Oil - 1 Quart
The gold bottle Titanium Edge is one of the finest synthetic motor oils I have ever used. The product keeps the engine temps lower on average than does Mobil-1 by a tiny margin, and is better than Pennzoil Platinum (didn't test Ultra yet) by a larger temp margin. After 5k miles, there is nearly NO darkening of oil. Mobil-1 has tiny darkening, and Pennzoil Platinum, somewhat more so. Before "Titanium" came along, the best formula was the gold bottle "Edge" but made in Germany; this new formula is made in USA (maybe from spilled Louisiana crude doh!) and may be even better yet. A few years ago, it seemed that Castrol brand synthetics were nearly unaffordable. But after "the spill", the price of Castrol oils has dropped versus other popular brands. While it lasts, you should grab a few cases of Castrol Edge Synthetic with Titanium 5w-30. Your engine will thank you 300,000 miles later, as does my '89 Jeep 6-cylinder that still runs like new, always running synthetics by Mobil, Castrol, Valvoline, and Pennzoil.

I read a great many reviews, tests, and anecdotal reports before choosing an oil filter for my car. I wanted something better than an old-style cellulose filter media. The Mobil 1 EP filter is a hybrid of both synthetic and cellulose media.
I have no issues with the Mobil 1 EP filter in my car. I have no valvetrain or other abnormal noise, even at startup.
The M1EP has a quality gasket, so it goes in and comes out easily. The can is very solid. This means two things: The M1EP will not burst if your oil pressure spikes; and unlike some cheap oil filters, the M1EP won't bend when you remove it. The anti-drainback valve is made of quality silicone. The bypass valve is controlled with a coil spring.
I've had my oil tested for particle counts with M1EP filters, with one particular brand of filters using pure synthetic media, and with filters using pure-cellulose media. Based on the numbers I saw, the M1EPs did a vastly better job of cleaning up the oil. That is, the particle count was much lower with the M1EP versus the OEM cellulose filters, and versus the pure synthetic filters. It wasn't even close.
The only bad point, at first glance, is that it costs more than many filters. But it can be kept on for 15,000 miles. If you keep it on for two or more oil changes, the price factor ceases to be an issue. Besides, my car--and my peace of mind--are worth it.
Just one other note: The packaging and product labeling on M1EP filters has changed recently (as of early 2012). The new packaging claims "99.9% efficiency", where previously it said "99.2%". It also says it lasts "3X as long", where before it said "2X". I called Mobil and asked about this, to see if the oil filters had changed, or if this was merely for appearances. I was told that only the packaging/labeling has changed. The product itself has not changed.
Good price for money. I have 06 hyundai sonata 4 cylinder. Would highly recommend filters.

Ordered filters 2 day free shipping. Arrived on time and in perfect condition. Filters are heaver then other filters (fram, purolator, etc). Wonderful material of construction quality. Internals have spring loaded backflow preventer and nicely designed filter media and supports. I've used so far fram 9688, microguard to date. Stop using oem filter because they sometimes were out of the original mitsubishi filter. Took it to the dealer and it fit without any problems. I checked it after a 100km run and it had no leaks.Cannot feel any difference but at least I figured since I was using Mobile 1 10W30 oil that this filter would be a good match. The filter cost 2 dollars less than the oem filter.Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for Mobil 1 M1-104 Extended Performance Oil Filter, Pack of 2

Reviews of Valvoline SynPower Full Synthetic Motor Oil SAE 5W-40 - 1 Quart
When I bought this, it did not specify which variant of the 5w-40 this was. Ordered to find out. It is the MST version, the mid-SAPS oil.
This is neither a good nor bad thing. What it means though is that in gasoline vehicles in the US, due to the sulfur content in the fuel, you will get faster TBN depletion than with a full-SAPS version (the HST version of this oil has a TBN of 10 versus this which is 7.1). With a TBN of 7.1, it is not definite whether it is a 10k mile OCI oil, but it will do better than 5k miles, which is just about doable with a low-SAPS oil.
It is a pretty light 40wt, good for economy.
After a 5k OCI and a UOA, Ill update.
Different grades different certifications; 5-40W is the only one with certification for TDI and other diesel engines as well as all gas engines. Great stuff if you run a multi-fuel fleet.
From Valvoline web site......
SAE 5W-40: Provides the widest range of protection available in the SynPower motor oil line. Delivers outstanding cold temperature pumpability for rapid oil circulation at start-up. Provides a thick oil film for ultimate wear protection. Exceeds all car and light truck manufacturers' warranty requirements for the protection of gasoline, diesel and turbocharged engines where an API SL, SM or CF oil is recommended. SynPower 5W-40 exceeds European ACEA A3/B3/B4/C3 requirements and is approved for Mercedes-Benz, and Volkswagen. SynPower 5W-40 also meets the engine performance requirements for BMW, Jaguar, Porsche, Lexus, Rolls Royce, Volvo and other high performance vehicles.
No other oil in Valvoline's lineup has this broad of a range use or certifications for Gas or Diesel. Just a side note I have not been able to find an oil from any other manufacture that can match it. As an example of why I use this oil I have a TDI with over 350,000 miles and the only thing ever touched on the engine is the timing belt every 100,000 and a couple of glow plugs. I also have several others vehicles well over the 100,000 mile mark with no engine failures.

I've used Valvoline SynPower SAE 5W40 in my 2006 Jetta TDI from 50,000 to 70,000 miles. I think it's a great oil that holds up as good, if not better than, Castrol SLX or Pentosin. Royal Purple is the racing industry standard because of it's long life and great performance. If you want the best, but at the highest price, then get this. You won't be let down.I run this oil at an 8,000 mile change interval on my 1995 Toyota Supra Turbo. I send the oil out for testing at Blackstone Labs and change the filter (Purolator Pure One) every 4,000 miles. While RP is a bit on the expensive side, it's freely available and I can grab a quart in the store if needed unlike Amsoil or RedLine. I've got 189,000 miles and the wear levels on my motor are equivalent to a car with 50,000 miles on it.

My experience by no means is a proven scientific method of analysis, but the trend I have experienced with Fram filters has been one of reliability. I used Fram on everything from motorcycles, ATVs, cars and my 4x4 trucks. Not one has shown any indication of failure. My truck with over 300K miles is well within its compression window and doesn't blow the least bit of smoke. My motorcycle has over 50K miles and it too doesn't show any appreciable wear.
Does that mean Fram is flawless? Nothing is, but I changed 1000s of engine oil for myself and 100s of friends over 30yrs. I am presently using this 6017A series on a Polaris ATV which is exposed to extreme conditions in the Florida swamps with much success.
Maybe Fram fails easier than others when you push the envelope with going long on an oil change interval. Since I change oil religiously, I may never know what the failure point of a Fram filter is, and I am certainly not interested in finding out the hard way.
I trust Fram as good balance between quality, reliability and cost.
Is that proof enough that this filter is one of the best for the application out there or what ???????!!!

I am tired of hearing about how bad FRAM filters are for you motorcycle. They are one of the few aftermarket brands that make filters specifically designed for motorcycles. Motorcycles typically need a much higher flow rate of oil so using filters that are too restrictive can seriously damage your bike's engine. They got a bad reputation because many years ago as they did have poor quality but now I would consider them one of the best. I have bought FRAM filters from both Amazon and Oil Filters Online for my bikes and couldn't be happier. Do yourself (and your wallet) a favor and give FRAM a try.Best Deals for Fram PH6017A Motorcycle Oil Filter

I've *only* been using the Canadian-manufactured Fram PH6017A oil filters on my 2001 Honda Shadow Sabre 1100cc motorcycle since the day I purchased it new and it now has 85,000 miles and is still ticking just fine. Course, I did the scheduled oil changes every 3000 miles religiously, have used semi-synthetic oils as well as diesel-rated mineral oils (more zinc). I don't ride like a maniac so I'm not torturing the engine or anything like that, but I do ride agressively. Is that proof enough that this filter is one of the best for the application out there or what ???????!!!

I spent a dozen years fighting wildfire and when it came time to do some serious clearing of my private land, I figured I'd grab one of these tried and true cans. Problem: Between my last fire and today, some idiot bureaucrat mandated that we have "low emission" gas cans. The child proof ratchet is just stupid; the clearances are poorly executed and it is difficult for an adult to manipulate. Out comes the pocket knife; off goes that bit of stupidity. But it gets worse--the "spillproof" nozzle is chock full of crevices and moving parts--hit this thing with a blast of chips from your saw, or dust from a passing truck, and you'll wind up sloshing gas out of your can to try and get the crap out of the crevices before you reverse it an immerse it in your fuel or oil. S-T-U-P-I-D comes to mind. And the "dust caps" have no flange on them, so they sit loosely on top of the nozzle when reversed--as if this thing is going to sit on a shelf and never be bumped, jostled, moved, carried, or tossed out of a helicopter (don't ask). In short, this "carb compliant" can creates far more problems than any leaky saw gas can ever created, and the doofus who designed it should be the designated catcher for the next tree I fall....

My wife bought this gas can for me as a birthday present. I'm not sure what the designers were thinking when this came off the drawing board, but do not waste your money on this piece of junk. The pour spout jams. The screw on spouts leak. The spring loaded cut off is almost impossible to manipulate. The chain oil compartment takes forever to let the chain oil pass through. I worked for about 2 hours to try to figure out what I was doing wrong, when I realized its' not me. One of the most poorly designed gas cans in existence. The C.A.R.B. idiots figured a way to make this thing even more frustrating by using the same nozzles for both fluids! Fabulous idea but terrible at the same time. First of all the 2 "halves" should be able to separate. I'm thinking 2 separate containers that can be clipped together for transport. Once at the location where you are working you can then separate them to make it easier to actually use. Which brings me to these spouts. I just spent the second weekend in a row with a bunch cutting new access trails though the woods. Each guy had a different set of cans to hold oil, gas mix, and a larger can for just gas. I'd say out of a dozen, maybe 4 didn't have all the new "safety" features by-passed in one way or another. And every single can even with the safety features bypassed or not leaked almost without exception. The worst offenders were these spouts with the green turn ring and push to dispense. I don't know who designed these devices or who makes them but I will never use or own another. Mine went right into the dumpster this morning and I'm running far away from anything EPA approved or has child resistant features. Its time the government stops budding into things they know nothing about, have false data on, or is supported by the liberal party. Its time to take back our personal rights... DO NOT BUY until they replace the spout with something sensible.Saturday, December 21, 2013
Reviews of Bosch 3311 Premium FILTECH Oil Filter
So... I don't know what's up with the tables that tell you which filters you're supposed to buy for the Toyota Yaris, but they're wrong, at least for my car. I own a 2007 Toyota Yaris hatchback, and this is the filter size that fits. NOT what Amazon and other tables recommend. This filter is ridged so you can get a better grip on it when changing out your oil filter and seems to do a fine job.

As always, Bosch products are some of the best. It's hard to review an oil filter without imperial data, but I can say that the quality of build and materials is excellent. I bought several, and I trust it to protect my cars.Best Deals for Bosch 3311 Premium FILTECH Oil Filter

This is a very useful tool. Takes the place of most size filter wrenches. Little difficult in tight space but then what filter wrench isn't!

I didn't have a lot of luck with this tool at getting a somewhat tight filter off, it would just slip. It will come to good use for other jobs.Best Deals for Anytime Tools 19" LOCKING CHAIN CLAMP PIPE OIL FILTER WRENCH
unlike with a normal pipe wrench, this tool is able to do smaller pipes down to 3/4 inch (possible smaller) up to huge pipes of 6 inches or more. Using this tool is also nice because, unlike with a huge pipe wrench, you can get this into smaller areas where the handle of the pipe wrench wont fit. Fully adjustable and able to be locked down with a vise-grip type handle so what you grab on to wont slip or move. Overall rating would have to be 5-STARS for value, quality, design and usability.Honest reviews on Anytime Tools 19" LOCKING CHAIN CLAMP PIPE OIL FILTER WRENCH
Tool is extremely useful, really nice to have it when you need it. I've been using it on my jeep and on stubborn pickle jars.Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for Anytime Tools 19" LOCKING CHAIN CLAMP PIPE OIL FILTER WRENCH

Review of Fiebing's Neatsfoot Oil - 100% Pure
As a long time RenFaire goer, I've got a large wardrobe full of various garb, much of which is made from expensive, thirsty leather. After years of trying to clean it the WRONG way, and damaging it even more, or finding items that had been mouldering in the cellar for years at a time, several friends and myself spent an entire day and a 32 oz bottle of NeatsFoot oil cleaning and treating all the leather items in the wardrobe from belts to scabbards to filthy leather boots. Needless to say, it worked like a charm! Even the oldest, dryest items that we thought were destined for the scrap bin were restored to almost newness with this product! Leather sword scabbards with MOLD growing on them and cracked, worn leather around the buckles was like new. And even as much as this dry, thirsty leather soaked up, a 32oz bottle went a LONG way. You can't top this stuff.
I actually use a surprisingly large amount of this oil. Of course it has always been a standby for baseball gloves (I don't play anymore myself, but I have grandsons who do), but I also use it on my leather hiking boots, (Yes, some of us still use leather...gasp!), gun slings, pistol holsters, belts, and various objects I restore.
The key words on this product container are "Pure Neatsfoot Oil 100 Percent." There are oils out there that are compounds to be purchase which are labeled "Prime," or "Compound." These are to be avoided as they have either mineral or vegetable oils added. Pure neatsfoot oil is made from the shin bone or feet (not hoof) of cows. For leather products, "Pure" is what you are after.
This oil softens leather and makes it more pliable. It prevents cracking an drying and it makes the leather quite water resistant.
Now there are some tings to note about this oil. It will change the color of most leather, in particular new leather. It will cause more dust to gather on the treated leather and there is a slight odor to leather that has been treated. I personally find this odor pleasing and I associate it with fine leather products. When applying this oil to leather, most bottle directions will tell you to take a soft cloth and apply it with that. I have found that applying the oil directly to the leather, if possible, and rubbing it in with your hand is the best method. I have also found that, in this case, more is better. You will me amazed at how much of this stuff leather can soak up. It should also be noted that frequent reapplications will go along way in keeping the leather up...don't just apply it once and expect it to last a lifetime.
This is a good product at a reasonable price and it is sort of a must for the care of leather products in particular those products that are "working" products.

We live at 8200 ft. in the Colorado mountains. Our humidity is typically 10% so the leather sofa and chairs need extra conditioning. This oil really helps. But remember, it does darken your leather.Best Deals for Fiebing's Neatsfoot Oil - 100% Pure

For years and years I have used neatsfoot oil from LH&C (Laing, Harrar $ Chamberlin out of Winchester, Va. I've been using Fiebing Neatsfoot Oil for 40 years, mainly on shoes, but also on a leather couch and chairs, leather jackets, baseball gloves, and similar items. I have two pairs of Clark shoes that are 40 years old, on their third soles but still in great condition because of Neatsfoot Oil. I also do my wife's shoes, and did my kids until they went off to college. The oil not only makes leather more supple and extends it life, it also provides a significant degree of water protection almost like water proofing but better since the leather still breathes. With baseball gloves, you don't need much at all, mainly in the crease. I've also used it for some older camping gear that had leather components, and ditto for antiques items. A 32 ounce container will go a long way. I've had my current 32 ounces for 10 years and there's still plenty left. I would say this has to rival duct tape as the all-time multi-use champion.
